Road Trip Faith Building: Worship in the Car

worship in the car

One place you might find families in the summertime is in the car! Road trips are common for families as they take trips to the beach, to go camping, to take their kids to summer camp, to go grandparents houses, or even for those one-day road trips to fun places close by. So why not use these road trips to help build faith in your kids? One great way to do this is through the playing of worship music. Kids love music and helping them learn worship songs to sing to our God is amazing! Here are some specific benefits and tips for making the most of worship in the car…

Benefits of Worship Music for Kids

1. Constant Exposure

  • Consistent exposure to worship music reinforces biblical truths. Think of how many worship songs are actual Bible verses! So many!
  • Kids learn lyrics and melodies that stick with them, making it easier to recall scriptures and faith principles. Think of all the worship songs you learned as a kid that you still remember today!

2. Positive Atmosphere

  • Worship music creates a positive, uplifting environment.
  • It can set a tone of peace and joy, influencing the mood of the entire car ride.

3. Memorization and Learning

  • Repetition of songs helps kids memorize Bible verses and key messages. JumpStart3 is one of my favorite worship resources to use when it comes to helping kids learn Bible verses through music.
  • Music is an effective tool for learning due to its rhythmic and melodic elements. How many of you still sing the Arky, Arky song about Noah? Kids learn the story of Noah through that song!

4. Discussion Starters

  • Songs can prompt questions and discussions about faith, God, and the Bible. Listen to the lyrics and ask your kids questions about what something means.
  • Parents can use song lyrics as a springboard for deeper conversations about spiritual topics. If you’ve got older elementary kids, you can ask more in depth questions to get them talking about their faith in God.

Tips for Fun Worship in the Car

    1. Choose Age-Appropriate Music

Select songs that are suitable for your kids’ ages and comprehension levels. Have a preschooler? Check out Yancy’s Little Praise Party. Younger Elementary kids and older preschoolers would love Listener Kids music. Older elementary kids would enjoy worship music they might hear on their favorite Christian radio station.

    2. Create a Playlist

I love a good worship playlist on Spotify! You can create your own, too! Check out the Family Faith Builders Fav Worship Songs for Kids playlist!

    3. Sing Along

Encourage kids to sing along with the music! Make it fun by seeing who can sing the loudest or quietest, or the one who can sing every word of the song. Singing praises together as a family in the car is a great way to worship our God!

    4. Take Requests

Let kids request their favorite worship songs! Involving them in the selection process makes them more engaged and invested. It’s always fun to see the different songs your kids request!

No matter where your family travels this summer, take the time to sing praises in the car! By integrating worship music into your car rides, you can create an atmosphere that builds your children’s faith and helps them learn the importance of praising the Lord. Let’s worship in the car with our kids this summer!
